Flu Vaccines and COVID-19 Booster Vaccines for Winter 2024 are now available.

The Flu Vaccine and the COVID-19 booster are 2 separate vaccines.

You can get both at the same time if you are due a COVID-19 booster dose.

(Please do not book a vaccination appointment if you have any flu-like / head-cold / respiratory or Covid-19 symptoms. You can book an appointment once you are 48 hours free of any respiratory symptoms.)

Free Flu Vaccines are available to all those over 60 years of age, all aged 2-17 years (nasal flu vaccine), healthcare workers, pregnant women, people who have health conditions which put them at higher risk of of flu, carers, and those living with someone who has a health condition that puts them at higher risk of flu.

See below for the list of health conditions which are included:

  • Chronic heart disease, including acute coronary syndrome

  • Chronic liver disease

  • Chronic kidney failure

  • Chronic respiratory disease, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cystic fibrosis, moderate or severe asthma, or bronchopulmonary dysplasia

  • Chronic neurological disease including multiple sclerosis, hereditary and degenerative disorders of the central nervous system

  • Diabetes

  • Down syndrome

  • Haemoglobinopathies

  • A body mass index (BMI) over 40

  • Immunosuppression due to disease or treatment (including asplenia or hyposplenism, and cancer)

  • Children with a moderate to severe neurodevelopmental disorder such as cerebral palsy

  • Children on long-term aspirin therapy

  • Any condition that can compromise respiratory function, like spinal cord injury, seizure disorder or other neuromuscular disorder, especially people also attending special schools or day centres


    Children's Flu Vaccine

    This flu season, all children age 2 to 17 will be offered the nasal flu vaccine for free.

    Booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine

The protection from previous doses or a COVID-19 infection may weaken over time.

Booster doses help boost your antibodies and give you good protection from becoming seriously ill or needing to go to hospital if you get COVID-19.

Seasonal boosters are recommended for some people at higher risk of COVID-19 illness.

Emergencies may be accommodated between 9am - 6pm (Mon to Fri) 

Outside of theses hours Westdoc provides an out-of-hours service for urgent cases. The service is strictly by appointment and appointments can be made by phoning WESTDOC 0818 360 000.

. If you have a medical card please take it to your appointment. It is also helpful to bring a list of any medication you are on. Westdoc is also based in Tuam Primary Care Centre.
